Last post we dove into our MINDSET and how we can manage and invest in it. MINDSET is such a huge topic and I feel super passionate about it so we are going to continue this conversation.
An important part of developing your mindset is to surround yourself with mentors you can learn from. I’ve mentioned this before but today I wanted to share the work of two of my more recent mentors, Eve Rodsky and Kate Northrup. Both of these women offer solutions for powerfully navigating the patriarchal society we live in with honesty, resilience and humor.
It’s NOT enough just to be angry or complain about the injustices we see. These women are sticking their neck out and taking a stand.
One way to shift our mindset is to acknowledge and embrace the feminine and masculine within us. As women we need to listen to our intuition and speak up. When we begin to trust ourselves and use our voice, our confidence builds. With that confidence we then take action within our homes and communities.
One important action we must start with is acknowledging and then eliminating the unfair “Time Tax” put on women.
What is TIME TAX?
Eve Rodsky, author of “Fair Play” defines TIME TAX as follows:
A woman’s compulsory time contribution to household work and childcare with significant costs to her career, identity, health and marriage.
This “Time Tax” exists because many of us have received and internalized the message that a man’s time is more valuable than a woman’s time.
Rodsky calls this a toxic time message and I completely agree.
How can women claim more time for their health, identity and career? Those who do are often judged harshly by other women and by themselves. Shaming and mom guilt are real.
Shame and guilt are toxic! Confidence killers!!
We must reject society’s out-dated and patriarchal expectations of women being predominately responsible for household work and childcare.
We must challenge toxic time messages, step into our power and use all of our gifts.
We are not here to please anyone.
We are here to live out our purpose AND support each other.
I highly recommend reading “Fair Play” by Eve Radosky and discussing it with your girlfriends and your partner. Eve also has two fantastic IG accounts that I enjoy checking out @fairplaylife and @everodsky.
You will also want to read Kate Northrup’s latest book “Do Less”. It’s all about time management from a feminine perspective. I’ve been reading Kate’s email newsletter and listening to her speak her truth on her podcast with her husband and it’s really been resonating with me. Her clarity, honesty, confidence and compassion really shine through. I actually listen to it with my husband in the car and it has lead to some great conversations.
It’s time to check in with your intuition. Build that confidence muscle.
How can you claim more time for your health, identity, career and marriage?
Which of those areas are speaking to you?
What is one thing you can do today to claim your time as valuable?
I would love to hear your answers! Make a comment below and let me know if the topics of mindset, intuition and confidence resonate with you.
