Stuck for breakfast ideas?

I gave up eating whole grain toast and processed cereal years ago when I decided to improve my health by removing nutrient-poor food. Due to my food intolerances I’m always looking for new breakfast ideas that don’t contain gluten, dairy and grains. Eggs became my go to breakfast for quite awhile but a girl can only eat so many scrambled eggs. It’s also not a good idea to eat the same foods everyday because that is one of the way food intolerances can develop.

 On my quest to take a break from daily eggs for breakfast I discovered some breakfast recipes that I want to share with you. Some of them I’ve made and others are on my list to try this month. I’m always looking for new breakfast ideas that will keep me fuelled for a busy morning so if you have any great recipes, please send them to me.

If you ever find yourself stumped on what to have for breakfast, pull out the leftovers from the day before. Who says you have to eat North American breakfast foods first thing in the morning? Think outside the (cereal) box!

 1. Paleo Waffles

I used arrowroot powder instead of tapioca starch and left out the sugar. You are going to be topping it with fruit or maple syrup anyways. For some added protein and to avoid a sugar crash, add a side of breakfast sausages.

 

2. Grain-Free Granola

Pour some in a bowl and top with non-dairy milk and fresh fruit for a quick breakfast. This is probably not enough protein for breakfast so add a side of bacon or sausages.

 

3. Porridge

Another quick option but you need to soak your nuts overnight before putting them in your blender. I think this porridge tastes great cold but you can heat it if you like.

 

4. Sausage patties

You can use any mixture of ground meat to make breakfast patties. I like mixing beef and pork together. Serve with a side of roasted veggies.

 

5. Roasted veggies

Use seasonal vegetables to maximize the flavour of this dish. Roasted veggies are a weekly staple at my house. Make a big batch so you have lots of leftover.

 

6. Sweet potato and meat hash

I haven’t made this recipe yet but this looks so good. I love to order hashes and scrambles when I go out for breakfast but they always seem to include eggs.

 

7. Smoothie

Normally I don’t recommend smoothies for breakfast because they aren’t very filling. Some people love the convenience of them so I thought I would include them on this list. One of my favourite smoothies is similar to this recipe. I like to add hemp seeds for extra protein. I also use half a banana instead of honey for sweetness.
